Basic_Auth Users: Is it possible to mask ":" or "@" in username or password?

Sometimes, user names should contain @ Symbols. Sometimes passwords should contain @ symbols or a colon. Is it possible to mask these symbols so they are not interpreted as delimiter in the DOMAIN environment?
