Dongle in the server

Open Eirenliel opened this issue 3 months ago • 1 comments

There needs to be a way to show smol slime dongle in the server. Maybe as a separate device, or a device in the tracker, or something. They have some settings and information, like firmware update, and it needs to be exposed to the user.

Has anyone started thinking about how this will work? I've been trying to think about how users will interact with NRF trackers for a while and I'm still at a loss.

Feel free to disregard this if you've already come up with up a good plan.

I'm literally just thought dumping to get some ideas flowing.

What functionality will be visible on the Home Screen?

How will NRF trackers appear differently to regular trackers (do they need to?)

Would the NRF section of the server be its own section? Or should the features and functionality blend into the other settings?

Should NRF settings be hidden if no receiver is connected? (If this is the case, how do we visually show that no NRF devices are connected if the receiver is faulty? There needs to be a way to show no receiver connected without it appearing like an error to a user who uses OG slimes)

Should the receiver appear as a device in the same way a headset, controller or tracker does?

Should trackers be sub devices in the list to show what tracker is connected to a receiver more easily?

Some users will buy butterfly slimes (or diy NRF) without ever knowing that wifi slimes exist. Should we hide any references to wifi if a new user is setting up NRF trackers?

Where will users update the receiver? If it's a device in the list, it'll be easier to select it and update.

Anyway, just some thoughts.

for dongles i think reserving some space at the bottom of the main screen would be good, something like this.

in terms of differentiating esp and smol slimes, under the type section maybe instead of HID device it should say ESP or nRF.

with the settings there should be buttons like calibrate and pair in the individual tracker settings and in the reciever settings there should be a button to send commands such as calibrate or reboot to all trackers, but that would have to be implemented in firmware first.

for updating in server, futura is working on a universal server flasher to flash esp AND smol slimes, outside server i am working on my webflasher for smols.

only thing im stuck on is what esp slimes should be labled as, "regular" or "normal" slimes sounds belittling to smols and i belive "ESP slime" is a bit to technical. maybe "WIFI Slime" could work but idk.
