iCal status property support

Open myxor opened this issue 6 years ago • 10 comments

Is there any plan to support the status property from the iCal spec?

I am asking especially for the statvalue = TENTATIVE value. I would hope that it would be possible to show tentative events greyed-out or with a lighter tint similar to what events from other months are shown in the month view.

Hi @tibbi,

it would be great to have this feature eventually added to Simple Calendar, but what I consider a necessity is to preserve this status when it is set by other apps that support it.

An example of what I mean:

  1. I create an event with status "Tentative" in Thunderbird.
  2. The event gets synced to my Nextcloud server - there I can see the status as tentative using Calendar app.
  3. The event gets synced to my phone - in Simple Calendar I cannot see the status, but I can edit the event.
  4. I edit the event time on my phone and save it.
  5. The event gets synced to Nextcloud (and Thunderbird) - the tentative status is gone, instead both apps show the status as confirmed.

@tibbi Does this mean you won't accept an MR for this?

likely not yet, not sure how I feel about it. It needs more research, I dont want to overload the app with such advanced features that barely anyone needs

I am using this feature every day in Thunderbird and Nextcloud Calendar. And as there are already 6 upvotes and 2 other issues about the same feature i would say that this is used Quote often.

6 upvotes from 2 million active users? No, doesn't look like a major request.

I would have assumed that the goal of an iCal-compatible calendar app would naturally be to strive to fully implement the standard — at least passively (i.e., by visualizing the status properties that are in the calendar data). I am not sure how to see that standard conformity would be feature overload.

Unfortunately this functionality is necessary if one wants to plan cross-family events or just if someone has a bit more turbulent job (as I do). It allows to rapidly even several times a week change from accepted to tentative and vice versa.

I have been using this app as a single user for multiple years and have been very happy with it. But now, when I need to share a calendar with my partner, this feature is absolutely needed. Since you don't seem to want to implement it, I need to find another app that does implement this standard ical feature.

i also would appreciate this feature according to the specification RFC5545 - 3.8.1.11
