MatSelectItem in Layout Grid Shows distorted arrows

When a MatSelectItem is put into a layout grid as in the following code:

The item looks like this on the page. The up/down arrows are distorted and both are displayed.

I am using the Chrome browser, .Net 5.0, Blazor 5.0.7, and MatBlazor 2.8.0.
