Request for URL Formatting Feature on RocketChat

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Yes, presently, when we insert a link directly into RocketChat, the URL can sometimes extend very long and look rather clunky, especially if it is an encoded URL. This makes the chat look congested and slightly distracting to read through. It can also sometimes break the aesthetics of conversation and provide a less than optimal user experience.

Describe the solution you'd like To improve this, I propose the introduction of a link addressing and formatting feature. Specifically, it would be highly beneficial to have an icon for quick URL insertion in the text formatting panel on RocketChat. Ideally, this feature would allow users to edit the display text of the hyperlinks, making long URLs appear short and more readable within the chat, without compromising the actual destination of the link. This should serve to make text chats look clean and conversations seamless to navigate. image-2023-11-14-22-10-08-305

Describe alternatives you've considered Other than incorporating a quick URL insertion icon, another alternative solution could be implementing an automatic link shortener function in RocketChat. Whenever a user posts a direct link into the chat, the platform could automatically transform it into a shorter, more manageable URL. However, this might involve additional security considerations, because of the implications of cloaking links behind shortened URLs.

Additional context The addition of a feature like this could greatly enhance user experience on RocketChat, making the chat more disentangled and visually appealing. Such a feature can be extremely helpful in business scenarios where users have to frequently share long and complex URLs with team members. The ultimate goal is to ensure a clean, uncluttered chatting interface, while maintaining the security and fidelity of the data being shared.
