Add 16 player support
Currently we support 7 players, 8 are possible without crashes, 10 sometimes but 16 never but the new editor supports 16 players by default.
So which windows are affected:
- [ ] diplomacy window (already buggy at 800x600 with 8 players)
- [ ] statistics (already buggy with 8 players)
- [ ] host screen
- [ ] Colors (We only have ten and need at least 17)
- [ ] Swap option may be affected
- [ ] Savegameloading with swap player may be affected
- [ ] Win conditions by maqs may be affected
- [ ] Trade may be affected
- [ ] Dummy player swap is affected as we only have 0-9
- [ ] maybe other I can not think of at the moment
- [ ] diplomancy window
Really? Does anyone wants to play RTTR with 16 players? I think 8 is enough... The maps would be huge and games take ages... If someone is defeated he would need to wait all that time... I think we should make it work for 8 players (2v2v2v2 or 4v4 modes) and fix the bugs related to that.
Well, mainly for AI games - the Editor supports it and that way 256x256 or 512x512 could be really great to play
In my opinion 8 is enough. It will be really hard to find 16 players for a game :P. For games with AI... like Flamefire said: it is better to focus on 8 players and current bugs.
One thing to try: Fix it for 8 players but make it variable where possible. With any luck (and good design) adding arbitrary player numbers comes for free.
That's exactly what I thought about - some menus (those I just posted) aren't working at the moment. Maybe the effort for 16 player support isn't that big and, could be great for single players (id really love to play a 512x512 map by a map gen with 15 enemy's)
Can you make a tickable list here with all windows/issues related to this? Makes it easier to go through each one.
