Your question
Hello, What is the best practice when creating a playlist where some items are stereoscopic, some aren't, and some might be using different stereo packing layouts (e.g. some are top-bottom while some are right-left)? At the moment I am creating my own playlist class where I can assign a stereo packing mode to each item, and changing the fallback media hints on whichever media player they get played on as they get loaded. Is there a more straightforward approach to this? Thanks!
You can create a media reference for each video where you can set media hints such as stereo packing.
Hi, sorry to reopen this - but it seems like a playlist cannot hold a media reference?
The issue I am experiencing is that when transitioning from, say, a top-bottom stereo video to a monoscopic video, there is always a moment during the transition when the top-bottom video displays as mono (and I can see both eyes packed top and bottom) or the mono video becomes a top-bottom (and I only see half of the image in each eye).
The only idea that comes to mind to circumvent this is to render all my mono videos as top-bottom, with the same video repeated twice for the top and bottom. Obviously I'd like to avoid this and build a media player that could easily transition between both types of media. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
What platform(s) is this on? I think I can see what you mean in Windows Editor...
Hi, this was on Windows but I have sorted it out by building my own Playlist system! All sorted now.
Yeah, looking into it, the Playlist MediaPlayer was never really designed for this use-case. I guess we should add it to the list of enhancements.
Great job on sorting it internally. Sorry it has taken us a while to get to look into this one.
