OWL Modular not usable after Firmware update

Open andrepalubitzki opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

I'm having an OWL-Modular since 2016. The last firmware which I successfully had installed was v14.

Now I was surprised and happy to see a new Firmware version v22.4.0 for it. I've installed it and after a reboot it's telling me "Error: Error 0x60 Invalid bootloader" in the Firmware tool (Chrome website) and I get a flashing red LED in OWL.

However the status is telling me "Connected to OWL Modular v22.2.0". After a power cycle the OWL is flashing red/yellow.

(One thing which irritates me is that the Midi Connection for OWL is named OWL-PEDAL.) This happened for the firmware version from page v22.4.0 and the one from page v22.4.rc1 and the one from page v22.2.0.

What can I do?

I think that error message is returned if you try to flash firmware when the firmware is running. You can only flash bootloader from firmware or firmware from bootloader.

You have 2 options for flashing firmware:

  1. keep the old DFU bootloader and use webdfu or dfu-util to flash, in such case you need .bin firmware image
  2. flash the new MIDI bootloader and then use .syx firmware image after switching to bootloader mode

Thx for your answer. But I don't understand the need for flashing the MIDI bootloader first to use .syx firmware. In the past I updated several times and I always was using the .syx files.

I now managed it. I had to reflash the Midi-Boot-Loader.
