Inconsistent design behaviour: Selecting multiple files from 'completed' for 'edit', only processes 1 file
Problem Description
If you select multiple files from the "completed" tab of encoded files, and then RH-Click 'edit', to be able to re-add them back into the queue, only a single file is actually re-entered back into the 'Queue' tab.
This behaviour should either be to add all the selected files back into the queue (preferable) or to grey out the 'edit' option if multiple files are chosen, to indicate that this option is not available. If multiple files could be 'edited', there should be a checkbox which prevents having to answer the options available for each individual file.
Background: During a queued encode of 6000+ files; while reviewing the 50 or so completed, it became apparent that the auto cropping was impacting some files output. I changed the encode profile accordingly, and selected all 50 previously 'completed' files to be re-inserted back for re-encoding. Vidcoder creates the new files as M4V in the source folder, leaving the original as MP4, with the option to overwrite older M4V's without renaming. This enables me to re-re-reprocess the original MP4 files until success. I then delete the MP4's and rename the M4V's to MP4 - enabling me to keep their original filenames (and creation date and metadata) and location within the folder structure.
What version of VidCoder are you running?
7.12
Encode Log
No log attached. This is a GUI issue.
The "Edit" option sends the job back to the editing window, where you can only have one job appear at a time. I think you are asking for a new option to re-queue the jobs. I would have to think about three desired behavior. Maybe it would be labeled "re-queue with current encoding settings".
Hi, Many thanks for the quick response.
It's not really about what the action actually is, it's more that you can choose three (for example) items, and 'edit' will only perform its actions on one of them. So Either multi select should be allowed, and all 3 are processed, or edit becomes greyed out if multiple items are selected, because it's only going to perform its actions on one of them.
However, I'm not expecting any immediate action (or indeed any major design change) - merely to highlight that it is a GUI inconsistency.
Feel free to close this if you feel it's appropriate - otherwise I'll happily beta test any change Regards
