Error occurred while scanning resurfaced
Problem Description
When loading a DVD to read (copy protected), I am getting the 'error occurred while scanning' (like I didn't have Libdvdcss-2.dll in the correct directory), However, I'm using the latest portable release 7.12 along with libdvdcss-2.dll in the download directory, and continue to get this error. My machine is a Windows 11 64bit box with plenty of horsepower and disk space. I've attached the log files for your review in the hopes you can point me in the right direction. I should mention that Handbrake 1.51 works fine (just tediously slow). Thank you in advance for any assistance you can Logs.zip provide.

The portable version extracts all the program files to a temporary folder, so likely it can't find your DLL. If you download the zip, you should be able to put the DLL in the same folder and have it be recognized.
That is what I did. Downloaded the portable 7.12 to the downloaded files directory, and put the dll in there as well. I agree its simply because the app doesn’t see the dll, but don’t know where else to put a copy. Might it have something to do with registering the dll on the system?

The portable version extracts all the program files to a temporary folder, so likely it can't find your DLL. If you download the zip, you should be able to put the DLL in the same folder and have it be recognized.

I’m sorry I misunderstood. I will 1) download the zip file. 2)create a directory for Vidcoder 3) unzip the file in that directory 4) place a copy of 64 bit libdvdcss.dll in that same directory and let you know the results.

With your newest installer, the application (installed using the installer) no longer makes a directory under c:\program files, where should the appropriate .dll be put so I can rip DVDs that I own?

It should be working when you extract the zip archive and put the DLL in the same folder. I don't see any reason why it would work in Program Files but not in another folder.
Adding the DLL with the new installer is going to be tricky; the files live in a subdirectory of %localappdata%\VidCoder.Stable which changes on each update. You can try to get the zip setup working, use AnyDVD or use the installer and copy the DLL in every update.
Ill try that and let you know the results. Thank you for your time. Your app is my preferred resource, and it’s worked flawlessly for years till the latest update, and now I can’t even roll back to prior releases and get it to work.

Okay. Here is what I've done, and a complete report.
Zip file had no executable file that I could find, so I was unable to attempt that route. Also, the Anydvd product is way out of my price range, so I'm sticking with libdvdcss-2.dll. I installed your latest release, and the manually put a copy of the .dll in both the vidcoder.stable directory AND the 7.12 subdirectory and it still wouldn't work. Attached is a zip file containing the 3 log files from the latest attempt to run the application. Thank you.

You might have downloaded the source. There's also a binary release zip file: https://github.com/RandomEngy/VidCoder/releases/download/v7.12/VidCoder-7.12.zip I just tried libdvdcss-2.dll with that one and it worked.
I will give that a try. Thank you for the follow up. Just to clarify, the .dll goes in the same directory as the vidcoder.exe file, correct?

Well, non-protected disks work fine, but I still get the attached error when reading encrypted disks. I assume this is a 64 bit version of the app as that is the .dll I’m using. If it requires the 32 bit .dll, let me know.

Update.
Okay, when I run the portable install (with Libdvdcss-2.dll in the file folder), it still will show a read error when trying to see a ‘protected disk’. HOWEVER, if I simply load (not run) Handbrake and then launch Vidcoder, it works like it always has in the past….flawlessly. I have no idea what is going on, nor how to fix it, but at least this gives me a temporary work around until the problem is identified and corrected.
