New BEAMR Technology / Nvida SDK 12.1

Feature details

Dear Vidcoder-Team,

Nvidia has released Video Codec SDK 12.1. In the release notes you can read about "Beamr's Content Adaptive Bit Rate (CABR)". This seems to be an extremely interesting technology for way more efficient encoding (file size / quality). They write: "CABR can be used with the same configuration and bit rate settings to generate compressed videos of the same perpetual quality as the original NVENC encode." I would recommend thinking about that if your awesome Vidcoder-Encoder should be one step ahead even in the future. I know, there could be licensing costs, but I would even spend some money on a Vidcoder version including this.

Also on my Top-Wishlist: A Slider witch lets me automatically set an option like "half the Size" of the original file. I normally encode from H264 to H265 with Nvenc. Based on the Source material, there is much "trial and error" for finding good seetings with the existing options and sliders because the source material is always different. From doing many thousand encodes with Vidcoder I can say that "Half the Size" is a good compromise of nearly no quality loss and file size for me.

Thanks for reading and keep on Vidcoder-Team! You're doing an awesome Job!

Any kind of encoder features would first need to be added to HandBrake, as VidCoder uses the HandBrake API.

As for a setting to halve the size of the input file, it would produce inferior results to quality targeting. The input file might be very well compressed already, in which case you degrade the quality. Or it might be horribly compressed, meaning you could have had a lower file size without a noticeable quality drop. Quality targeting makes sure the result meets a given quality bar and minimizes the file size from there.
