Automatically add All Titles from DVD to Queue

Open ChicagoScanningMG opened this issue 3 years ago • 10 comments

Feature details

Currently, there is no option to easily nor automatically add ALL titles on a DVD to the queue. I use an automated DVD importer to import the VIDEO_TS folders directly to a folder on my computer. I then drag the parent folder into VidCoder (or Hanbrake) and I would like it to automatically add all of the titles on the DVD to the queue. Currently, it will only add the first title to the queue.

As it stands, the only option to add all titles from a DVD is to select the drop down under "Add to Queue" and select "Add Multiple Titles to Queue" but this requires the user to select each titles individually. There should be an easy way to just add all, and ideally, all titles would automatically be added to the queue.

Have you tried enabling the option in the Picker window: "Pick only titles between x and y minutes" ? By default it only queues a single title from a disc as often the main movie the only one people want.

I have tried that. I tried entering between 0 and 999 minutes and it would still only add the first title.

How exactly are you adding the item? There are a few different entry points for adding an encode job.

I've been adding DVD Folders for encoding by dragging and dropping. I just got around to testing again, and if I drag a SINGLE folder in and I have "Automatically Queue After Scanning" selected, it will only automatically add the first title. However, if I drag multiple DVD Folders into VidCoder, it does appear to be adding all of the titles if I have "Pick only Titles Between x and y minutes."

The "Automatically queue after scanning" feature basically just hits the "queue" button after scanning. And by default, that just queues whatever title is visible.

Can you try dragging to the queue area instead? That should trigger the "batch" mode which uses the Picker settings.

That works! I'm glad this works in the current version of the program! I think making it more clear and/or streamlining this feature for a future release would be killer.

Thank you for your time and help!

Ohhh... and I thought to myself, after trying options from the picker: "Am I that dumb?" So I've searched Github for this and found some Threads, back to Feb 2020...

It should be mentioned in the program, that it don't work as many expected. Dropping it to the Queue is not really self-explanatory... I really love VC and it "would be killer" if this "Picker Setting" would work as expected. Many peoples here have the same problem...

"Pick only titles from xx to xx minutes" should be "Pick only the first title from xx to xx minutes". or "Autocheck only titles from xx to xx minutes in "Queue Multiple Title"" Maybe add text to this setting like: "If you want to pick all titles then drop it to the Queue".

Also maybe then an option in the Queue - Right click context menu to add a folder would be nice. :)

As a "Keyboard-Kid", before i knew that, I used CTRL+T, selected the tracks I wanted with Shift+Arrow Keys, aaaand needed then the Mouse to click the Checkbox... (Normally pressing Space should mark the Checkboxes too like in most other Programs but this would be an other enhancement...) So the only, "Pick only titles from xx to xx minutes" do is to click the Checkboxes for you.

Anyway, greeeaaat Program for Encoding!

Also it would be cool, if using {title:2}, VC could check the folder, where the videos will be saved, if there other videos with already named title and continue the count like:

In the folder is already: Foo - Title 05.mp4 Foo - Title 06.mp4 Foo - Title 07.mp4 VC goes on automatically with Foo - Title 08.mp4 Foo - Title 09.mp4 Foo - Title 10.mp4

Well, I know, you can do this with "Override title #" but sometimes I forgot to set it back or need to check, where I left it and need to delete and re-queue then...:D

Thank you for this great Program, RandomEngy!!!

So the only, "Pick only titles from xx to xx minutes" do is to click the Checkboxes for you.

If you drag over a folder of video files to enqueue, or you enqueue multiple files from the menu, it will apply to that as well. Opening a DVD to preview it makes for a weird situation. You've got a specific title chosen in the drop-down, so it would make sense that you are just enqueuing that one.

You could try to make the titles multi-select there, but that cause other issues. You can change and override any of the audio and subtitle tracks the picker chose, for example. Would that apply to the other titles you're not previewing? They may or may not have similar tracks, and it's not clear what to do there.

Applying the Picker settings on a batch add is safe because there's no preview and no overrides involved.

Thanks you your answer, RandomEngy! :)

Well, at least I have now 2 choices:

  • Pressing CTRL+T (or using the drop down menu, but as i said: im born with keyboard :) ) and pressing Enter then to accept the choices.
  • Dropping the Folder/File to the Queue

Thats fine enough so far... :)

Also I found some strange behavior with the Watcher: I was curious what will happen, if I make a folder for DVD/BD aso and use my DVD-Picker and Settings. VidCoder found all "Pick only titles from xx to xx minutes" so thats great! 👍 :) But with my custom file naming {source} - Teil {title:2} it startet from 03 so the name was Foo - Title 03.mp4. Any idea, why it not started from 01?

All titles on DVD have a title number. Some "titles" are just short little videos that play in the menus, and aren't the main content. It will give you the native title number by default.
