1.10.3 [Bug]: Drawing Tool shapes do not show in Draw Explorer for Players

Open aliasmask opened this issue 4 years ago • 4 comments

Describe the Bug

There are 2 sets of tools the players can use to draw on the map. One is the Drawing Tools and the other is the Template Tools. Any drawing done with the Drawing Tools does not show up in the Draw Explorer for the players on the token layer. It does show up for the GM.

To Reproduce

  1. Open up 2 instances of MapTool, one server, one client.
  2. On the client select the Drawing Tools at top then use any of the tools like the square.
  3. Draw a square
  4. Open up the Drawing Explorer on the client
  5. It will show the + Token folder but when opened there are no drawings and the + disappears.

Expected Behaviour

Token layer drawings should show in the Drawing Explorer for the clients.

My recollection is that this was intentional as the current drawing system doesn't track who created the drawings and can't limit the view to only drawings by a particular player.

Don't know if @Jaggeroth can recall any more specifics about it.

I wouldn't be opposed if all players had ownership for player drawn shapes. Again, it works fine for template drawings.

Other than to perhaps center the map on a particular drawing what utility would the players get from seeing drawings in the Draw Explorer?

If you have it for template drawings, I don't see why you wouldn't for other drawings. Mostly to delete them or move them. Templates don't cover all the bases for area of effects and then they are drawn manually.
