Livesplit doesn't close properly in 1.7.7

Every time I launch and close livesplit with VAS in the layout, the process stays open, hogging some resources

It fails to close properly because of the poor threading implementation. An exception is thrown somewhere and it doesn't know what to do, I'm guessing, so it stays up. It's difficult to debug since it's a heisenbug that only appears occasionally.
