Variable inspector not working using a jupyter notebook

The variable inspector doesn't seem to work while using Jupyter notebook with a conda environment and a R kernel, is it a problem with my machine and my setup or is it a problem regarding compatibility between the two softwares? The problem occurs only with .ipynb files, not with normal .R files.
