split-gpg2 documentation
The problem you're addressing
With qubes 4.2, we can use split-gpg2, but peoples, my self included, found them self confused by the actual documentation.
The documentation for split-gpg2 is already there, only not in the official documentation.
The solution you'd like
The official documentation show usage for both versions of split-gpg.
Both versions are active
I understand that if the split-gpg2 documentation still mention the split-gpg1 software :
Using split-gpg2 as the "backend" for split-gpg1 is known to work.
And both software seems installable:
$ sudo apt search qubes-gpg*
- qubes-gpg-sign/unknown,unknown 1.0.0-1+deb12u1 amd64
The Qubes service for simple GPG signing.
[...]
qubes-gpg-split/unknown,unknown 2.0.70-1+deb12u1 amd64
The Qubes service for secure gpg separation
... So I conclude that there is no plan to depreciate split-gpg1.
Asking for guidance and community help
I am willing to do a merge request in qubes-doc (let's say this month).
What should be done to update the documentation ? Should we link OR import the documentation of split-gpg2 ?
Do we emphasis on split-gpg2 rather than split-gpg1 (documenting first one rather than one other) ?
Is there some screenshot of split-gpg2 available in the context of thunderbird & cie (since I do not use that software) ?
