[Feature Proposal] S3 Support

Open Nicolas-GUILLAUME opened this issue 7 years ago • 11 comments

Hello,

I would be interested to implement a feature for keepass2droid to support S3 storage for the databases. I like a pure S3 solution because I can use a S3 credentials that has no access other than the kdbx file. S3 also proposes cheap storage without a subscription and versioning if the bucket is properly configured.

I would be interested in implementing this my self. Would anyone else be interested?

I def would; am trying to get off InMotion Hosting and migrating to AWS, in this case S3. I have been thinking about standing up a Nextcloud instance on AWS which provides the WebDAV KeePass2Android could use, but in the meantime an S3 plugin/support would be awesome. With my current setup, KeePass only works on my PC/Laptop, so I'm left emailing or plugging in and copying the KP DB to my phone for using the latest. Till now, I'd been using InMotion to host a Nextcloud instance, but they're harassing me about using (software/install they provide) my hosting plan for personal backup/file storage - which I argue is specifically what Nextcloud is intended. Now they're threatening to lock my account unless I remove all my files, so I've decided to move everything to AWS and be done with those hosers. I digress, S3 support would be great, and if I might be of any help I'm happy to do what I can.

I haven't had time to seriously look into this. I might have some time this weekend if I'm done with an other personal project.

I'm glad to see that there is some interest. I'll let you known when I have something that works, it shouldn't be too complicated to setup the S3 part. I'm mostly concerned about the integration in Keepass2android so if you have some experience with that I would be open to getting some help.

This is something I'm also interested.

Did you make any progress on this?

Is this still thought about? If so, please keep in mind, that there are other service providers for S3 buckets these days. Please do not hardcode the varies S3 locations from AWS into any solution but provide an option to enter your own url for that.

Please upvote the feature if you want to see this implemented.

Still no S3 support? There are so many S3 providers, this is really something I hope to see.

Where exactly can I upvote this please?

I was wondering the same when he said that to me, so I just gave the first post a "thumbs up" reaction in the hopes he meant that.

S3 access would also open the doors to Backblaze. Upvoted!

Apologies I can't commit time here but very interested.
