It is possible to add an option to disable the social media function?

The current master branch has support for enabling and disabling the buttons globally. I will leave the issue open while I explore options for adding this on a per-category basis.

I probably should also mention that if you use the git version you might run into issues with the config as it's versioned. Until I publish a release the version will remain at 1. However, it can probably be resolved by simply going into the theme configuration and saving the settings once.
