How does Path of Building behave?

Upon opening POB, lua errors encountered. Same is true when starting a new build file, i.e. lvl 1 scion. The error is encountered at the build selection screen

Escaping from this error allows me to navigate to tree, etc. But error is encountered anytime I go back to save selection screen

Above LUA error shows up when opening PoB, and cannot press Enter/Escape to dismiss.

@Foulzor see the comments in https://github.com/PathOfBuildingCommunity/PathOfBuilding/issues/8656

@zilfmania likely one of your builds is corrupted in your build save area. If you go to your build save location, check each build to make sure it has content in it.

Image Delted all builds, never used one drive on this comp. File never updated

@SigmondFloyd Actually that looks like a different error. It's attempting to find your Settings.xml in your Documents folder, but can't. See this issue where someone had the same problem: https://github.com/PathOfBuildingCommunity/PathOfBuilding-PoE2/issues/972

Usually caused by something going sideways with OneDrive

Wires77 avatar Jun 17 '25 01:06 Wires77

@Wires77 I wish that solved it.... it did not.. pob2 worked no prob... and pob1 was working fine until this new league started...

I had move poe to another drive with more room,... that likely has something to do with it.. from a C to an ssd G but did that back in dec for poe2

@SigmondFloyd share your solution here so that we can let other know if they encounter something similar

Man... post the solution you found so other people can fix it...

Still seeing similar behavior on 2.55.5, anyone ever find a fix? My program seems to work fine as long as I never go to the tree view. Items, skills, imports, build loading, etc. all work fine.

Maybe related - I can also no longer enable the node power feature on the tree without a silent crash to desktop.

I've tried a clean install, latest drivers, and the portable version. All have the same issue. Running Win 11 with a 5090 (was happening with my 4090 a few weeks ago as well and I had hoped the upgrade just might magically fix it!)

Apologies for the double post, wanted to share a list of things I have tried today to maybe save someone else from trying the same things!

Things I've tried:

  • Reseating RAM, swapping sticks, swapping DIMMs
  • memtest86 reports clean bill of health for RAM
  • Scanned hard drive for errors, none found
  • Old video card (4090) + drivers, new video card (5090) + drivers
  • Clean install of PoB
  • Portable version of PoB
  • Complete OS (Win 11) reinstall - nuclear option and needed to happen anyways :)

In my struggles, I found a reddit post describing a problem I was having and, as luck would have it, they have my exact CPU, i9 14900K. (Thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/17no8dd/7zip_crc_error_when_installing_geforce_experience/)

I followed their exact advice, lowering my CPU clock ratio down to 54 from 60 and, lo-and-behold, PoB works perfectly again. Not sure that this will help the general population but wanted to capture my experience here to maybe save someone else a painful debugging journey.

Happy Pathing Exiles! :)
