Documentation: "world" or "global" coordinate system

Open jdsika opened this issue 4 months ago • 2 comments

There are two words used to describe and mention the global coordinate system: "world" and "global"

We have to find the word "world" and evaluate if it should be replaced by "global".

The usecase is e.g. that the developers of Lichtblick's ASAM-OSI-Converter asked how the official name of the reference frame should be. Currently it is <ROOT> but we should recommend a clear name for that reference frame.

The usecase is e.g. that the developers of Lichtblick's ASAM-OSI-Converter asked how the official name of the reference frame should be. Currently it is but we should recommend a clear name for that reference frame.

I would preferably refer to the wording in the documentation here: https://opensimulationinterface.github.io/osi-antora-generator/asamosi/V3.7.0/interface/architecture/reference_points_coordinate_systems.html I already fixed a lot of deviating definitions based on that in the past.

So the official name of the inertial ground truth coordinate system should probably be "global coordinate system".

In my opinion, the occurrences of "world coordinate (system)", "world frame", etc. (see here) should be changed to "global ..."-wording.

CCB 23.10.2025 agrees to change to "global". This is a maintainace task and can be pulled by anyone and merged in the CCB afterwards. Also search for the term in the other repositories.
