Shortcuts to apps on SD card disappear after reboot:

Open projectextremum opened this issue 7 years ago • 3 comments

General information

  • OL 0.6.0 f-droid
  • System: Android 5.0

Homescreen shortcuts to apps installed on external SD card disappear upon reboot - while shortcuts to apps installed on Internal storage remain correct.

Update: I noticed that the issue was discussed before and no reliable solution could be found perhaps.

  • Catapult (fork of cyanogenmod trebuchet deletes uninstalled apps from desktop ASAP, while preserving shortcuts after reboot when SDCard isn't mounted. The app is open source as well.

  • Worth noticing that some launchers (eg: Google Now Launcher), did not remove respective desktop shortcuts once apps were uninstalled. But retained shortcuts to externally installed apps upon reboot. That's favourable for most users like me than the other way round.

So if possible without much effort, I will be happy to have such an option toggle (that shortcuts don't get vanished on reboot, but stay after uninstalls unless manually removed).

  • Lastly, while I haven't looked at the code at all, I suppose it is possible to add a desktop backup mechanism that is carried on upon SD card mount complete. While it causes much instability even as an experimental / debug option, it solves the problem.

Currently, only possible way is to have a full backup, and go to OL settings on a full reboot, then restore from that backup, which is cumbersome.

The issue might be from this return value, it might need to be inverted.

It could also be the DatabaseHelper deleting apps it can't find since the SD card hasn't been mounted fast enough. I will push a few possible solutions for you guys to try on the next release. There will be a few pre-releases pushed to F-Droid before I push an official release and we can use those to troubleshoot this issue.
