Add data from TheCrag
Hey, this project looks like a very good and very important initiative.
Is it possible to add datasets from TheCrag? Their use-submitted content is licensed under CC-NCSA, so I think it's all ok to use.
We would love to have more data from the Crag. However, the N (Non-Commercial) in their license, CC BY-NC-SA, is the issue. It prohibits any kind of commercial/monetary compensation. For example, if someone uses our data to build an app and charge $0.99, they should have the legal right to do so.
We intend to license our datasets under ODbl. ODbl is incompatible with CC BY-NC-SA.
Ah, that makes sense. Would it then be possible to add this data but have each dataset tagged with the the license it is under? Free apps could use the whole dataset and paid apps could choose to only use data licensed for commercial use.
I think this is a really good idea and certainly possible. We should discuss this in the call next Wednesday.

Just wondering if there were any updates on this since the last post in Jul 2021? It would be really cool to have this data available in a truly open way!
@0xdevalias We've started a dialog a couple months ago and they're receptive of the idea of sharing/exchanging data between the 2 projects. However, we haven't been able to reach a resolution. My plate is full with OpenBeta development at the moment so if you or anyone else is interested to help and would be willing to drive the initiative I'd greatly appreciate it.
That sounds like a pretty positive start :)
When you say "haven't been able to reach a resolution", are you able to share what the current 'issues'/concerns/areas that would need work done/etc to move things forward?
@vnugent I think the answer to this when we last spoke was 'no update/response', but just wanted to check in here on this thread to confirm that was still the case (mostly to keep the thread up to date/etc)
@0xdevalias still no. Maybe not the answer you want to hear, but I'd suggest anyone wanting open access to data on the Crag, please write to them directly. The more people bring up the open data issue, the more chance they may reconsider & be willing to have a discussion.
