[mobile navigation] use back button as close current status/thread

Browsing Mastodon as an installed PWA on my Android phone, I regularly hit the back button and get out of the app instead of closing the current status/thread. Is it possible to intercept this and close the status/thread if there is one currently opened? (like clicking on the tiny cross at the top right)
