SAS hba not detected by M720q

Open Cosik opened this issue 9 months ago • 7 comments

Hi,

Did you have any issues connecting your HBA to M720q? Did you use any special BIOS settings? I have INSPUR YZCA-00227-101 9207-8i which cause some problems for me. When I connect it to PCI-e TrueNAS is not discovering it, only showing new PCIe line in lspci

I tried UEFI shell and issue is the same, no detection:

Hello!

Initially my LSI card only worked sometimes and I discovered that when the card sags it wouldn't connect properly so I made this bracket for it: https://www.printables.com/model/701086-lsi-9200-8e-pci-eback-cover-for-lenovo-m720q

If you have a "heartbeat LED" on the HBA make sure it works (it turns on/off in 1 second intervals on mine I believe).

I also needed to use rombar=0 when doing PCI-e passthrough (I'm now running OMV) to a VM.

Other than the two things mentioned above you could try connecting the card to another PC to see if the issue is with the card itself or your configuration.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I checked and HBA is working on other PC. On my m720q it is till not working. Even I tried to lift it a little bit up

Do you have any other advice? Some special BIOS version (have latest version)? BIOS setup? Power supply? I tested it with 90W and 65W PSU.

I don't have any other PCIe card to check, maybe riser is broken or PCIe in CPU.

I don't think I messed with the BIOS (I may have updated it, I don't remember) but you could try and see if there are any settings related to PCI-e and changing those...

I'm using a 20V x 3.25A = 65W Lenovo PSU (Rev.: G).

I was going to guess the riser being the issue next as well...

Try searching up documentation for the card to see if it has some specific requirements perhaps?

Still fighting. I get another riser, but looks exactly the same.

I have some other PCIe Cards and some are working and some not.

Are you able to check and share information bout your BIOS and Embedded controller Versions?

Hi Did you find a solution? I am in the same case. With the riser nvme pcie card is working but hba and usb3 cards not... I have read on internet that m720q has a pcie ressource limitation but I didn't find any parameter in the bios for pcie! Please help ;)

Update: looks like HBA had contact to the board, put some antistatic cover between hba and motherboard and it started

Hi, same here :( M720q with 65w power supply Have BA7H70 rev 1.2 (01AJ940) riser Intel I350-T2 working LSI SAS9207-8e not :( Tried several bios settings, but nothing works With LSI power led on, cpu cooler stoped
