Year dropdown - Single Line of text exceeding maximum character count of 255

Hello,

We wanted to start using the Year Dropdown Control but are experiencing issues when trying to select a value. To start we had a Year field of length 4 where we installed the control on. When selecting a value from the list, we get the error: "Year: You have exceeded the maximum number of 4 characters in this field."

We tried increasing the maximum allowed characters of the field up to 255 and are now still experiencing this issue: "Year: You have exceeded the maximum number of 255 characters in this field."

Setup of the field in the control is as follows:

We do not have any other business logic (JavaScript, business rules, ... ) running on this field so not sure why this is occurring. We are using CRM Online and are trying to use the control for the first time. We are able to replicate the issue on different tables / forms / fields.
