Cant sign into steam through tf2idle - special char handling?

Upon trying to sign into steam with a password containing alphanumeric and only the special characters of ^* , I am unable to sign into steam. Triple checked the pw, and am able to sign into steam with the password manually.

Also with a different account/pw, couldn't sign in while it has %&#!$* characters in its password.

Speculated characters with issues: ^ &!$ Special characters in other passwords that could still sign in: #*@%

Password length used was 24.
