Suggested improvement for cross_bracing in beam_only model

Open harsshh14 opened this issue 11 months ago • 1 comments

Dear Ospgrillage Team,

I am working on modeling a simply supported composite bridge using Ospgrillage. The results I obtained are closely aligned with commercially available software, and I appreciate the platform's ease of use.

However, I would like to incorporate cross-bracing into the structure. Since there is no direct way to add cross-bracings, I aim to modify the properties of selected transverse members to emulate their effect. Would it be possible to add a functionality where if I put in a list of elements in the set_member function, I can modify the properties of only those elements.

If such a feature already exists, I would appreciate guidance on how to implement it.

Hi @harsshh14 ,

At present, cross bracing definition isn't natively supported. However, I think this could be a valuable enhancement for certain grillage analysis scenarios. I'm happy to explore this further with you.

ospgrillage welcome community contributions. If you've already developed some initial implementations, please feel free to open a pull request for me or other contributors to review.

As you've correctly noted, the current workaround involves adjusting the transverse properties. While not ideal, this remains the interim solution until we can implement a more robust approach.

We appreciate your engagement with the project and look forward to continuing this discussion.

Justin
