Stuttery recordings

I've been trying to record a web experience, but the the whole website slows down when I start the recording and the resulting video is very stuttery. Audio seems fine though. I tried lowering the bitrate and framerate, but it didn't change the outcome.

macOS Sonoma 14.1 iMac M1 (2021)

Hi! Is this performance worse than when using macOS' built-in screen recorder (via the screenshot tool)?

yes, but the built in screen recorder doesn't record my desktop audio for some reason.
