On ubuntu 11.10 I didn't have the folder ~/.local/share/gedit/plugins

As suggested here it would be nice to add in the installation instruction:

If you do not find the folder ~/.local/share/gedit/plugins create one using

mkdir -p ~/.local/share/gedit/plugins
