Please provide a simple test scene as a .blend-file: see files attached

Screenshots or rendered images:

Transferring this Issue to LuxCore as it is likely to be a core bug.

As with similar issues before, I could not reproduce it under Windows or Linux.

I can confirm several crashes during rendering of this file (including window resize drag again). MacBook M3 Pro, MacOS 14.7.4, Blender 4.3.2, BlendLuxCore 2.10.0-rc1

@FarbigeWelt @epileptrolytics I've been thinking we could try to narrow down a little if these problems are specific to Blender/BlendLuxCore or LuxCore in general. Could you try the following:

  • Download the staandalone release https://github.com/LuxCoreRender/LuxCore/releases/tag/samples-v2.10.0
  • Try to export your Blender scenes using the filesaver option
  • (If that doesn't crash as well:) Render the exported scene with luxcoreconsole and/or luxcoreui
  • If the filesaver also crashes Blender, try one of the scenes from https://github.com/LuxCoreRender/LuxCoreTestScenes

Sorry but I don't understand UNIX and Terminal-related stuff; when trying to open luxcoreui I get this:

Quite weird actually but I can consecutive reproduce the error, and bypass as follow:

I download the above zip, open the blend file and save an incremental blend file, hit render -> no crash. Open original, hit render and crashes at render start. Ussualy at 2nd time start rendering but crashes on Esc to cancel render.

I have just tested (same estup as noted above) this file again with the new final 2.10.0 release and didn't encounter any crashes in several renders, also not when resizing the render window.

Thanks for the feedback. The stable release didn't have any additonal changes compared to rc.1, so this was not explicitly fixed.

There was some unrelated update to one of the dependencies, which causes some new issues and will lead to that dependency being version-fixed from now on as well. However, that was CUDA, so irrelevant for mac...

Some remarks: I'm getting render crashes with Cycles too, same unpredictable pattern, so it is possibly a Blender / Apple GPU driver related issue. I'm now always saving before rendering, in case of a render crash the second attempt works in most cases.

OK now i have an M1 mini 8GB --- Nlender 4.5LTS ;) . I can confirm the random crashes with Blendluxcore. luxcoreui does not crash for me. I have the feeling this could be related to view updates in Blender / macos since i can trigger it by changing the window or resizing it. Then on next update it will segfault.

Actually i'm positively surprised that opencl still seems to work. Maybe deprecation has a good side in some instances. ;)
