Suggestion to include pre-compiled tools
Hey! Not sure if you are still working on this, but is there a chance that you could include pre-compiled tools as a download for people that want to use them but may not have enough knowledge on how to compile them themselves? This would be very useful, especially if the tools were GUI based or command prompt based .exe files. I'm currently using outdated, separate tool set downloaded from Rock Raiders United forums to manually extract LEGO.JAM, decode .BMP files and one of the old tools that can convert the .GDB models into .PLY format (which Blender can also open, though I doubt using the models in this format is optimal). I believe many people would appreciate this, so thanks if you do happen to give this some consideration or thought!
Hey there, there's actually a download for a compiled version, see the latest release (https://github.com/Laupetin/Lego-Racers-Mod/releases/tag/v0.0.1). There's not been any important changes since then.
There's no GUI, you drag and drop the JAM file on "JamFileTool" to extract all contents in the same directory. You drag and drop a folder on it to create a JAM file with the same name in the same directory.
Ah, thanks. I was not aware of this. Thank you a lot for the tools anyway, even if I can't work with them due to a lack of knowledge on compiling things. Anyone wanting to even touch LEGO Racers files is sure to appreciate the work you are putting out. I'm just happy to see this being done and especially for models to support anything else but this weird PLY format that isn't particularly Blender friendly.
Anyway, since you shared a link, you can close this if you wish, and thanks again!
Although before you do, some of the models don't exactly work. If you intend on continuing to work on this toolset, I think you could have a look at the PLY tool I mention. It's on Rock Raiders United forum. Example model that doesn't work found here, which is Veronica Voltage's car, though not full: "LEGO\GAMEDATA\COMMON\VVCM.GDB" - If you use the GDB to PLY converter, it actually outputs 3 different models, and each seems to be a different part. Hope this is useful!
Thanks, I'll keep this open then. Currently I'm busy on other projects so i'll take a look if I come back to this.
No problems :)
