zigbee2mqtt Container crashes several times in 1h

What happened?

Since the update to 2.7.0 my Zigbee container keeps crashing every 10-30 mins. I have rolled back now to 2.6.3 as version 2.7 is unusable for me :-(

Looks like the adapter is overwhelmed. Strange that the version update would affect this (code for ember has not changed), unless a specific device converter is misbehaving. Have you tried updating again? Might have been from a bad adapter start or something similar (it happens on rare occasions...). Did you identify any pattern to it (like it happens at specific interval, or after a specific automation triggers, etc.)? Check the Health tab in frontend (or MQTT) to see if some device could be misbehaving (mps very high).

Note: I've seen some people roll back to last 2.x.x version of smlight core firmware because 3.x.x was unstable.

I was using ZBDongle-E EmberZNet v7.4.5 firmware during the upgrade. After having the same Z2M issue, I upgraded it to v8.0.3 but the issue persists.

It would be great if you could shed some lights how to roll back to the previous version. Thanks.

I also have similar issue with different adapter (Sonoff Dongle-M). Restart happens around every 28-32 minutes - I don't see any specific pattern. I have downgrade to 2.6.3 and restarts stopped happening. But to be fair I have a hunch that there might be device connected to the network, that is causing some disturbances, but on older version restarts are happening once every 2-3 days. after upgrade every 28-32minutes.

Went back yesterday to 2.6.3 and was running fine. Tried again update to 2.7.0 but after +- 30 mins container crashed again.

I have the same issue. Hardware = SMLight SLZB-06M via ethernet. Worked fine before the upgrade. After the upgrade, Z2M crashes within minutes after startup.

I switched to the dev branch- the issue was not fixed.

@koevoetsfjm Have you tried doing a full power cycling of the slzb? Any other change other than the Z2M update? Unfortunately, the end result may be the same, but the error appears to be different (same for a few other posts here), so, may be a different source.

Yes- tried everything. Even downgraded back to 2.6.3 from a backup that worked fine up until yesterday.

The error stays the same however. So reverting back to a backup- or upgrading to the DEV build don't fix it. on 2.7.0 my setup crashes 30 seconds after restarting, on 2.6.3 it stays alive for about 15 minutes;

I'm starting to think that the HA-OS / HA-Supervisor upgrade (also performed yesterday) is the culprit.

For now my setup is too unstable to use. I've disabled all my automations since it's driving me crazy.

I have 2 different sites, both using the SM SLZB-06M 1 site has 17 devices. Upgrade to 2.7.0 is fine, no crashes Other site has 70 devices tried update twice to 2.7.0 but crashes every 15-30 mins, 2.6.3 is running fine.

I had SLZB-06 but it was very unstable (no matter of version), so I switched to Sonoff Dongle-M. Sonoff DOngle-M state: 2.6.3 was OK 2.7.0 was unstable (restart every 28-32minutes) 2.7.0-dev looks promising, it is working for almost 2 without any issue

@koevoetsfjm looks like you may be losing the connection to the adapter? Something on the network maybe causing problems? @Tazmanian79 did you try the dev branch?

Hi guys, I don't know if this will help, but I'll share my recent experience: I have a setup with an SLZB-06 adapter connected via LAN, running very stable for a long time until I updated to 2.7.0. After the update, I had 1-2 crashes per hour.

Since restoring version 2.6.3 from a backup, it is running stable again since several hours.

PS: I have about 50 devices

The network is stable as can be-

but it seems SMLight published a firmware yesterday too (Revision: 20251204) that ended up to be updated in my coordinator- while i was pretty sure i had the 7.x SDK Firmware 20241127. I've turned off auto-updates and will try my luck with the SDK 7x firmware

@koevoetsfjm try these just in case https://github.com/Nerivec/silabs-firmware-builder/releases/tag/v2025.6.2 so you don't have to revert back to an old firmware. Some smlight builds in the past were missing a config that prevents timeouts, could be that again.

Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction. It seems this is a 'too many variables changed' scenario (HA CORE, HA-OS, Z2M and an unwanted firmware update all at once). Doesn't surprise me if all new HA + Z2M updates will run smooth as butter now.

Just uploaded the new firmware and i'll monitor the state for a couple hours and report back.

This issue seems fixed for me now.

Root Cause: my SLZB-06M got an automatic Coordinator Firmware upgrade yesterday which caused this issue. This got obscured by the HA and Z2M updates, pointing me in the wrong direction.

My system is running smooth again thanks to @Nerivec who suggested to take the custom firmware 2025.6.2; After that I could upgrade to Z2M 2.70 without issues and crashes.

@Nerivec I always used the official firmware versions. Is it adviced to switch to your custom firmware?

I have an SLZB-06M and don't want to lose my Zigbee network confirguration 😅

Last I heard, SMLight used firmware from darkxst. These are mostly similar to mine. Either should work for most cases, but I know they forgot a config in at least one of the recent 8.0.x builds (not exactly sure which models are affected). The lack of that config does often link to ERROR_EXCEEDED_MAXIMUM_ACK_TIMEOUT_COUNT. Note: I reported it to them already 😉 Flashing firmware on Silabs hardware rarely affects the saved network configuration (only if bug or very big change), any 7.4.x, 8.x.x currently do not.

Im running 2.7.0 with an Electrolama zig-a-zig-ah! (zzh!) adapter, also seem to have issues. At first i thought it was related to zigbee, but it seems to be related to MQTT, because i got on MQTT server timeout for some reason (but the MQTT server container seems to work fine).
