Legality on re-branding Kano

Open fadlijuniarso opened this issue 10 years ago • 5 comments

I saw a page in one of Indonesia e-commerce site, it shows a re-branded Kano-kit (into Pinisi Computer Kit) and uses the Kano OS (including the desktop I guess).

What terms and conditions should be considered to make this legal?

Thank you

Hi @fadlijuniarso, thanks for letting us know. Are you involved in the project?

@alex5imon I was doing a research to do the exact things. But I guess it is useful for asking permission for the first place. I'm suprised there is an attempt already. So, no I'm not involved.

Here is the page selling kano os inside the so called pinisi computer kit https://m.bukalapak.com/p/komputer/desktop/lg7nc-jual-pinisi-computer-kit-raspberry-pi-2 for your reference.

@fadlijuniarso thanks for the link.

You are free to distribute Kano OS, given that it is opensource, as long as you comply with the opensource licenses and don't infringe on our brand.

so it's free for re-branded with another packaging? or recompile Kano with another schemes or programmes

@devinstudio you can't use our logos or assets without our prior written approval. Having said that our software is opensource under GPL2 most of it. See for example here. You need to make sure you comply with that license, that's all.

Copyright licenses are here
