Emoji keyboard not working on one specific device

I'm using Version 1.22.1 from f-droid, and the problematic device is a Skytex Skypad Alpha2 (SX-SP715A) tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3).

When I switch to the emoji keyboard, most of the keys are blank, only a few have partial markings with just lines rather than emojis. And they do not do anything when tapped. It is at least still possible to return to the alpha keyboard.

Fortunately I do not use emojis anyway so not a big problem for me, this issue is just for tracking the problem.

Also, opening the emoji pane make the app crash on Android 2.2 as reported in https://github.com/Julow/Unexpected-Keyboard/issues/379
