Buggy on Windows 98 FE guest

Host: Windows 10, AMD 2400G, VirtualBox 7.0.18, Hyper-V and VBS disabled Guest: Windows 98 FE, SoftGPU v0.5.2024.29-alpha2, Patcher9x v0.8.50-beta4

Bugs:

  1. After install SoftGPU+DirectX9, run DxDiag will cause BSOD and crash at DirectShow detection.
  2. After install AC97 driver (ac97_362.zip), it will have sound stutters. I tried execute VBoxManage setextradata "My Windows 98" "VBoxInternal/TM/TSCTiedToExecution" 1 but no luck.

Update: I tried another host (Win11, Alder Lake, VirtualBox 7.0.18), and Win98 FE guest (SoftGPU v0.5.2024.29-alpha2 and Patcher9x v0.8.50-beta4).

  1. AC97 sound card worked fine.
  2. After install SoftGPU+DirectX9, run DxDiag will crashed at DirectShow detection.
  3. #57 is still not fixed. Play MPG files will had problems.

That has already been resolved. Click View on the WMP. Click Option. Set the Hardware Accelerator slider to the far left. (No hardware acceleration).

Even without hardware acceleration, there is enough CPU power to play the video at the time.

Hi, on Win98 FE and WMP 4.1, WMP had no hardware acceleration option.

Please install Windows Media Player 6.4.

And, on Win95 (950, 950B, 950C) and VMware 17, after install SoftGPU v0.5.2024.29-alpha2, the Windows Media Player cannot play AVI or MPG file.

This can to the magic: (this key is also included in laterst release, maybe update do work for you :-) )
