Small size is hard to read for some users
I understand that some users want things smaller to get the most out of their screen realestate, but other's need it larger to be able to read/recognize icons. I've attached a clipping showing the size of the Nodezator menu bar next to Thunderbird's menu bar for comparison. It would be nice if either the menu and other areas text was used was a more normal platform default size, or user configurable with a larger default so that people can read well enough to change it.
@jd-boyd thank you for yet another issue report, including the effort to provide an image for clarity.
You are completely right in all you've pointed out and I'll act on it as soon as possible.
I'll just add that the current size was not intentional. It is just that I don't have a monitor that is super large or with a super high resolution for me to test appropriate sizes. In my FHD monitor Nodezator's text is actually bigger than the text in the native apps, as shown in this image:
Regardless of all that, there's no doubt there should be an option for users to change the size of text and other UI elements to fit their tastes/needs, so that's what I intend to do now. I'll give your issue priority over other development tasks as well.
It will probably take a few weeks to sort everything out though, because of the scope of the required changes and all the fine-tuning usually required when dealing with GUIs. First of all, a few questions though:
First, please, just for reference, can you tell me the size, resolution and aspect ratio of your monitor?
Second, is it okay if I ask you to test the changes once they are ready, so that I'm sure the feature is working fine for you?
That is all for now. Thank you again for your issue report.
Have a nice week.
For reference, this is on a 14" 16:9 1920x1080 display. I double checked display scaling and found out that for some reason it was set to 125% instead of my normally preferred 100%. When I changed that, nodezator actually got larger:
That fixes my immediate issue, but it certainly isn't the expected behavior.
I should have mentioned that I am on commit a33e989e3c150a1914b6554857436e1f06e82264 .
I also should have included that this was on Fedora Silverblue 41.
I'd be happy to test, although I can be slow at that.
Thank you for the reply.
I assume adjusting your display scaling setting brought Nodezator's interface back to a proper usable size.
Since your immediate problem was solved, and because there are already current development tasks scheduled for Nodezator, I'll postpone my work on this issue then.
However, although not as urgent, this issue is still relevant, so I'll see if I can set aside some time to tackle it either during the current development round (the next few months) or just after.
Please, let me know if you find any more problems during that time, related to this or not.
