Specifying sort order

Open azaroth42 opened this issue 10 years ago • 3 comments

There seem to be two primary sort orders for annotations. Sorting by the [current?] canvas sequence order (a.k.a. page order) and sorting by relevance.

For painting annotations, page order seems more useful, but for commentary from users, relevance is likely vastly more important to prevent having to wade through pages of junk to find the useful nuggets of gold. On the other hand, for curated sets of annotations, page order is likely what the client wants, as it can just display the annotations directly with the canvases.

Is it worth while having a sort param with two possible values: "sequence" (in the order of the sequence ... but which, in the case of multiple?) and "relevance". Or always defaulting to sequence unless sort=relevance is specified?

Eds agree to defer until 1.0 when we have more implementation experience.

Question around whether this is too prescriptive to implementers - discussion needed

Should this be included in Search 3.0? (thumbs up/down on the comment please)
