Description: If you sit in a vehicle as a crew member (commander, gunner, driver) together with other crew members and all of us are using the vehicle radio (default settings), the following issue accures: While e.g. the commander is transmitting a message over the vehicle radio, the gunner/driver do not hear any transmitting sounds of the vehicle radio. The message sounds the same like when it's transmitted over the intercom radio. This also happens with switched rolls, like when the gunner is transmitting and the commander is not able to find out that he's currently transmitting. Here's a clip where a friend an I reproduced the problem in a Zeus template (German language ony): https://youtu.be/aM0S9HAWvOg In this case we used a BMD but you can also use any other vehicle (like vanilla vehicles).

Steps to reproduce:

  • Create a MP mission and place any vanilla vehicle with crew seats (e.g. an IFV)
  • Host the mission and join the server with a friend
  • One player enters the vehicle als commander, the other as gunner/driver
  • Both players use the vehicle radio and connect vehicle intercom
  • One player transmits a message over the radio
  • The other player is now not able to distinguish if the radio message went over the vehicle radio or was just an intercom talk

Where did the issue occur?

  • Multiplayer

Placed Modules:

  • don't know. @Soldia1138, can you help me?

The problem in here is that both players are using the same radio. Hence, if player A transmits through the radio, player B will not receive the transmission sound but will hear the message nevertheless through intercom since player A is simultaneously transmitting through intercom (this is the equivalent of direct speech outside a vehicle, where you would not know if player A is talking to you if you or transmitting through a radio are not in the same frequency). Player B will never receive this message over the radio.

This however is happening with vehicles and intercom. In helicopters, I could not distinguish if the pilot was transmitting over the radio since I was hearing only through the intercom (direct speech).

However, maybe we can provide more feedback and emit a sound to notify somebody is using the radio but I do not know if that would be more confusing at the end.

When you're listening to a personal radio, you hear the tx begin/end sounds as you press the buttons. When you're listening to a vehicle radio, you hear the tx begin/end sounds as you press the buttons. When you're listening to a vehicle radio, and someone else presses the tx buttons, you hear nothing.

You'd expect that all of the crew share the same radio output sound line, i.e. they should all be hearing those sounds.

Is that a good summary of the issue?

OTOH workarounds:

  • people reflexively speaking differently when transmitting on the radio
  • prefixing every single transmission with the receiver callsign
  • a personal radio tuned to the vehicle radio frequency

Yes, this describes my topic pretty well.

This is currently by design, however I will leave this open for further discussion. Possibility for a setting is there, depending on work required.
