Tabbing

We'd like to be able to mess with the tabindex attribute for our dropdown menu we made with tether. Specifically, we want to make the text the initial tabbing target rather than the icon and then be able to jump into the list right away rather than wait until the tabbing goes through the rest of the page. Retracting the menu with the escape key would be great, too. What kind of support do you guys have for these sort of options?
