Plant/harvest "other" crops

Open Skud opened this issue 11 years ago • 2 comments

Some people may want to use Growstuff for tracking stuff that's not in our crop database, eg. ornamental plants. We don't want to tell those people they can't use Growstuff at all, but we also don't want to lose the focus of our database. Could we allow them to say "other" and enter their own details? These "other" crops wouldn't show up in "browse crops" or in the auto-suggest or search or anything, but would still let people track their own stuff.

One way to do this might be to piggyback on the status field mentioned in #602 (improving "request new crops" process) to allow a status of "personal", which can only be planted by the person who added it. It could still be viewed, but it would have info on the detail page saying "this is Skud's personal crop" and there would be no "plant it" button or similar. You wouldn't be able to navigate to a personal crop page except via that member's detail pages (i.e. it wouldn't show up in crop browse etc).

Maybe when crop wranglers reject a crop that's requested, it could revert to "personal"?

A member should be able to edit/delete their own personal crops. But what do we do with plantings/harvests/seeds if a crop is deleted? (What do we currently do for our other crops? I think we have dependent: delete, but I'm not sure.)
