Chunk loading versus chunk ticking
Hej guys, I am so sorry for using the issue tracker to submit a question... consider this a documentation issue at best. But I do not have access to the support section on spigotmc — maybe I'm too fresh a user? So here I am...
Here it goes: I only recently found out — to much of my dismay — that there is a difference between chunk loading and chunk ticking. That is why I am asking you to be specific about this and to highlight what your mod, which obviously receives much praise in reviews, is doing precisely:
-
chunk loading is determined by load level and ticket type, and vanilla offers the command
/forceload— but it won't make chunks tick, for which loading is only one condition to be met - chunk ticking which depends not only on the load level (given by load ticket) but also on the player being actually nearer than 128 blocks — which is a completely different metric than the load level propagation
Only ticking makes mobs spawn and the grass (I mean "crops") grow. And that's what's needed for farms to work during absence...
Kindly want to elaborate on this with regards to your mod. Thank you so much !
Hi @hendrikvalentim, thanks for submitting feedback! You are correct, KeepChunks doesn't (currently) support growth ticks at this time. Other plugins mimic the feature by creating fake "players" around the areas of interest.
At this time, I am working on a refactor to simplify feature development, now that I have some free time.
If you'd like to narrow down some API methods to try, give it a whirl, if not, I will create an optional config that will perform the above process to provide crop growth.
