Videos don't play, just a distorted image

Hi. Perhaps I am missing something but I have tried MP4, AAC, etc nothing seems to work the frame is portrait (so are the videos) but all I see is an image in the middle of the frame thats not the video.

Is it possible to play videos?

Are you using a buster image? If not videos won't play. This is only supported on raspbian buster, after that the entire video engine and support changed for raspberry pi.
