Select From Content causes focused elements to be improperly identified when Tabbing.
Summary
When selecting text in Chrome and Firefox, then pressing Tab to navigate to different active elements in the tab order, the wrong name is announced for all subsequent focusable elements.
This occurs when Select From Content is enabled in the Verbosity settings while using the latest releases of Chrome and Firefox plus the latest April release of JAWS 2021.
Steps to reproduce:
- With JAWS 2021 running, open Firefox or Chrome and navigate to: http://www.levelaccess.com/
- Press H to jump to the heading titled "Empowering organizations to create accessible & inclusive digital experiences".
- Press Ctrl+Shift+RightArrow to select the word "Empowering".
- Press Tab repeatedly to hear the names of all focusable elements that appear in the tab order after the first word in the heading is selected.
- Confirm that all subsequent active elements are announced as "Free Risk Assessment", even though the active elements are not actually named the same thing.
Expected behavior:
When Tab is pressed, it should cancel selection and the proper names for each active element should be properly announced.
The problem also occurs in Edge. The problem also occurs with older versions of JAWS (e.g. 2019, 2020). The problem also occurs when text is selected with the mouse.
