Problem Description
The search bar at the top of the application window searches for videos. This is very confusing on pages that have their own page search and those that could but don't. The main problem is that the video search is fixed position at the top of the viewport while the page-specific search bar is not. This means the page specific search element quickly disappears when users scroll down even slightly and the more relevant search element is easily forgotten.
Proposed Solution
Make the more page specific search element fixed position and/or make the web video search not fixed position. Consider removing the web video search entirely from pages like Channels, Playlists, Settings, and History, where I don't think most users would expect that search field to appear anyway. This should probably be controlled by a setting.
Alternatives Considered
- Making none of the search elements fixed position.
- Changing the placeholder text in the search box to contrast its function more clearly.

The search bar, just like on YouTube itself is always visible, which makes sense because it's the site wide YouTube search (and just like on YouTube you can set the search filters), hiding it on certain pages would worsen the user experience significantly. It doesn't just take search queries though, you can also paste in links to directly jump to channels, videos, hashtags, playlists.

Being able to paste in videos from anywhere makes sense, yes. I don't mind the option to search for videos from anywhere but the current U.X. is not intuitive to me. If you all prefer it the way it is, that's your call. I find it pretty confusing in some cases and have accidentally searched for things with the wrong search bar many times.
