Reply to group message is sent to unrelated recipient

Steps to reproduce the bug
I received a group text message that included the sender, myself and one other person. When I replied to it, the reply was sent to the last individual recipient in my message list.
At first I though I made a mistake, so I navigated back to the group message, replied, and upon hitting send, I saw that the message thread switched contents from the group message to this other persons thread contents, yet the recipient list at the top of the screen show the two from the group message.
Expected behavior
A reply to a group message should go to the group message contacts.
Actual behavior
Every time now, when I go back to that group message and send a reply, It goes to this other person what was the previous contact in my message list prior to the group message.

Yes, I tried toggling it to see if one way or the other would make a difference as well.
So, the message is sent individually to the last recipient even with this option enabled?
What happens if you create a new group yourself? Does it work properly then?
Im going to get two family member phones to do testing so I dont bother my friend with errant messages. I'll report back the results.
I have 3 phones now, I sent a group message from A to B & C. I replied from C and it was fine.
I then sent a single message from A to C, just to change up the message list.
Then I repeated a group text from A to B & C and replied from C and it was fine again.
Then I went back to the original group message that I had an issue with, and the reply went back to the same other recipient (luckily a friend of mine that isn't getting too annoyed) that recieved the reply in the oringinal report.

If anyone else has this issue, please comment if you have more info. This might be related to https://github.com/FossifyOrg/Messages/issues/365.
Two more observations:
I archived the thread with my friend, and replied to that group message still go to my friend.
I deleted the message thread to my friend, and replied to the group message, and a new thread was created to my friend with the reply.
This may have started in a recent version. I have received two more reports about this in the last 24 hrs.
I can't test MMS messages myself so any extra information from anyone will be helpful in fixing this.
I've had this consistently since F-droid updated me to v1.6.0.
I don't use group messages. The app just seems to send an outgoing message to a different recipient from whatever conversation I'm looking at. Not sure how it chooses the recipient - perhaps it's the last conversation I sent to? I'll try to find a pattern and report back.
