Affected app version

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

14 (Sony's almost vanilla version), also others

Affected device model

Sony Xperia 1VI (and others)

How did you install the app?

F-Droid / IzzyOnDroid

Steps to reproduce the bug

I am writing down the steps I used, but the details of the devices used may not be too important.

  1. Plug a USB-C “Hub” that has e.g. downstream USB ports and an SD card reader (typically they have HDMI as well)
  2. Plug in a SD card -> will be recognized by android
  3. Plug in a USB SSD -> will be recognized by android
  4. Open file manager -> Only the SSD is shown as USB device, despite android showing two distinct devices

Expected behavior

All external storage devices that are known to android should be accessible.

Actual behavior

Only the latest plugged device is visible.

Additional information

We found this issue during a discussion here: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/sd-backup-solution-without-a-computer/49014. The idea was to use a mobile device and plug a storage device (SSD) and an SD card via a so called USB “Hub” and backup the SD card with photographs/videos onto the SSD, Typical phone storage is limited, and for photographers doing raw or video, it's simply not enough to do it in sequence SD -> phone -> SSD.

I am not sure this is maybe more a feature request than a bug. However, according to the linked thread, there are file manager apps available that can make use of the two storage devices. On the other hand, google's own file manager is also not able to access the first device after a second one is plugged. The use case is valid anyhow, at least for people dealing with large amount of data during travel, e.g. photographers, videographers, and scientists.

It's a bug, should be fixed.

Related issue:

The app also does not recognize multiple partitions but some other file managers do.

USB “Hub”

Just had mine delivered. I was able to reproduce it. This should be fixed alongside #53
