Contacts are stored on 'DEVICE' (what is it?) about 1000+ contacts Yes it appears
Contacts are stored on 'DEVICE' (what is it?)
It is probably the device storage.
Go to contact details
Just to confirm, did you tap delete on the contact details screen or the contact editing screen?
Also, do you have Merge duplicate contacts enabled?
I use contact details screen. Yes, merging is on without merging it's 4000 contacts...
I was unable to reproduce this with a few hundred contacts. I'll check again with 1000s later.
In the meantime, please check if deleting works for contacts saved on other accounts (if you have any).
Now I see the problem. I have 2-8 copies of each contact in my list (i switched off merging) with the same name and phone. When merging is on, I see one contact profile, so I have to press delete 2-8 times for each copy - this is confusing Do you know how could I fix it? vcf editing software?
Are those copies saved to the same account? Does deleting them one by one work properly?

Yes, that would do it.

Are you deleting from contact details view or edit contact view? Because when merging contacts is on, deleting from contact details should prompt while deleting, that it will delete the contact from all sources.

Contact view (contacts list > tap on contact > this is the view)
Contact view (contacts list > tap on contact > this is the view)
In Settings in On contact click it's possible to choose whether it will trigger editing the contact or just viewing it, hence the question.
This exact dialog should appear when multiple copies are being deleted. If deleting still doesn't work in one go, there might be a bug in the way merged contacts are being deleted.
@ikyquocked Please confirm if you have On contact click preference set to Edit contact.

Just viewing, not editing.
Ok, not sure what else could be causing this. A screen recording demonstrating this bug might help.

Steps to reproduce with screenshots:
- Contact list merging off
- Merging on
- Contact view (merging on)
- Deleting
- Result
- Result merging off (one entry removed)
Thanks. Last question: Have you tried waiting a bit on the viewer screen before pressing the delete button?
The loader is pretty slow, so I can reproduce this when I tap the delete button immediately after opening the viewer, but not after all the duplicates are loaded.
