Download DS game without updating system

On Step 3 there is no mention that you can access the eshop without updating the Wii U system software. I'm in the middle of the process right now but from what I understand I just need to download the NNU Patcher to gain access to the eshop so I can download my DS game for Haxchi.

Edit: I just noticed that I already downloaded it from the setup page. But there is still no mention of it on Step 3.

Edit2: Just tried the NNU Patcher. You can keep the DNS update block and still access the eshop.
