Do we have an alternative to 'Input'?

Is there an alternative for or plans for the ability to use the old INPUT "Query" &Answer option?

We intend to implement this capability, but don't have it in place now. The current solution for this is to write an app, rather than doing it in a file. We recognize this is not ideal for quick-and-dirty soltutions, but have put off implementing it in favor of having some time to scope it out and arrive at something we're really happy with.
