Does it make sense to create a machine learning model to transform images into stitching templates?

I am thinking about creating a model that takes images as input and generates accurate stitching templates. I don't know much about stitching, but a friend told me that current methods for automatically transforming images directly (or indirectly via SVG) into stitching templates don't work very well. He mentioned that especially for more complex images, the stitch type is not selected optimally, and color gradients are not well represented. What do you think? Would it make sense to create something like this? It would be just a fun project, and I have access to thousands of images and high-quality templates through my friend.
